And for a Saturday a few stray thoughts and a few general observations and a few points view (all my own work):
Like I still do not understand why the whole country should celebrate the centenary of the Congress. After all the whole country is not made up of Congressmen.
Like I do believe that India will become a real democracy only when it shows respect to the president of the country and begins thinking of the prime minister as the leader of one of the political parties which is temporarily in power.
Like I know Mr. Rajiv Gandhi is used to flying and has flown for a large number of years of his life. But what was the point in his life but what was the point in his flying to Bombay and flying out of it in a couple of hours just to inaugurate a conference of government employees. Mr. Chhagan Bhujbal could have done it.
Which reminds me Mr. Bhujbal wants Green Mumbai Marathi Mumbai Mr. Soli Godrej wants Green Mumbai Everybody's Mumbai.
And I cannot decide whether I am for the wholesale removal of pavement-dwellers or I am for letting them stay where they are.
Like the only thing I am clear in my mind about is that they cannot be provided with altermate accommodation. Because that would be like shifting a slum from one area to another.
Like the corporation must be meaning business if it has appointed Mr. Khairnar to remove the human encroachments.
Like what I would really like to be removed, more that the payment dwellers are the payment hawkers. Especially those who crowed Dadabnoy Naoroji Road. There is nothing humanitarian about letting them be, most of them are unscrupulous businessmen and nothing else.
Like have always said: Never trust a businessman or a politician except if the businessman happens to be a Tata or the politician a Madhu Dandavate.
Like France has always been a very independent minded country. It is proving to be so once again.
And the sooner we realise that the Third World does not count in the game of the big powers unless it sits up and explodes a few bombs, the sooner, as will have a more realistic appraisal of ourselves.
And I, am not worried about Pakistan's bomb. Even if somebody makes it for Pakistan it will not know how to explode it.
And this final point of view.
That people keep saying that Mr. Rajiv Gandhi's real test is still to come. And after all the tests he has already undergone, I wonder what it could be.
