And, for one more Saturday, a few stray thoughts... (March 31, 1990)

And, for one more Saturday, a few stray thoughts and a few general observations and a few points of view (all my own work):

Like Mr. Arun Shourie's recording of Mr. Devi Lal's abusive and boastful conversations is in the same pattern as his reporting verbatim a similar conversation with Mr. Gundu Rao. And in doing so Mr. Shourie has done a signal service for which he should be given whatever comes after Padma Bhushan.

Like it is difficult to understand that a man can be so crude and obnoxious and still be a deputy prime minister, And that too in Mr. V.P. Singh's cabinet.

Like when the chips are down, they are down. Poor Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, on the same day he has lost both Meghalaya and Goa, and this time not because of his own faults.

Like when Mr. Gandhi was the prime minister, he had developed a regal look. Now he has developed a smug look. Every time all government makes some small blunder he looks, he looks smug. And it is his good fortune that a lot of people have not noticed it, since he does not appear on TV so often.

And, in this context, God has been kind to Mr. Sharad Pawar. He has given him a face which does not register any expression.

Like I took at it this way: in making Mr. Kuldip Nayar high commissioner, he has effectively been retired from journalism.

And these stray thoughts:

Like I have heard of many reasons why a man is elected a mayor, but to elect somebody a mayor, as in the case of Mr. Chagan Bhujbal, to counter the minicipal commissioner, is the oddest reason I have come across yet. And it does not speak well for a political party in power that it does not get on with its own bureaucrafts.

And I do not know why the BJP wants its own candidate as mayor. I thought its principal was to only give critical support from outside and not look for the fruits of office.

Like both the BJP and the Janata Dal in Maharastra are a digrace to their national parties, and the Congress-I at the centre is a disgrace to its Maharastra unit.

Like I can understand the fares of taxis and auto-rickshaws being raised, since their drivers were demanding them. But why should BEST fares be raised, their drivers are not deamnding them.

Like, you die and your are forgotten the day after the funeral. Look at Rajneesh, nobody even mentions him any more.

And this final point of view:

That the Congress-I, so far at least, has been a better and a more responsible party in the opposition than the Janata Dal was when it wan in the opposition.
