And, for a Saturday, a few stray thoughts and a few general opinions... (September 6, 1990)

And, for a Saturday, a few stray thoughts and a few general opinions and a few points of view (all my own work):

Like if the CBI continues in this manner, all the bank accounts in Switzerland would be frozen and Swiss banks will be out of business. And after all the investigations (somebody should do a story on how much the investigations have cost so far, including those frewuest trips to Geneva and Berne and Stockholm and London and Washington), they keep coming back to the same names, Amitabh Bachchan, the Hindujas, S.K. Bhatnagar, an admiral, a vice-admiral.

Like there must be some truth when people refer to the government as a government of letter rogatory and FIR.

And though this may be the slowest investigation in the history of criminal investigation, it is also the most persistent.

Like judging by the size of the morchas, ther seem to be more people for the Narmada project than against.

And I will way this for the conversationists, they may be foolish and misguided, but they are more sincere than Mr. Viren Shah, Mr. Murli Deora and Miss Chandrika Kenia.

And I like the way Mr. Devi Lal is going about announcing that it will be Mr. V.P. Singh and not him who will unfurl the flag from the Lal Killa on August 15.

Like people are saying that if there was no Chandra Shekhar, the Janata Dal would do all right. To which I would like to add that, 15 years ago, if there was no Chandra Shekhar, the Janata would have done all right also.

And it is wrong to say that the National Front government has done nothing. It was solved our Congress made problems with Nepal. And would Mr. M.J. Akbar make a note of that!

And these stray thoughts:

Like I have not understood why, if the prime minister had to pick a journalist as his close confidant, did he have to pick Mr. Santosh Bharatiya.

Like Mr. Rajiv Gandhi travelling around the country by second class establisheds nothing. When he was prime minister he should not have indulged in such luxuries as having two Air-India planes at his disposal every time that he went abroad. And he went abroad a lot.

Like the way the government is changing governor, you would think the solution to Punjab and Kashmir is the appointment of the right governor.

And these final point of view:

That the moral of the story is that nine men from the Cameroons can defeat Diego Maradons and the world champions.
