And, for one more Saturday, a few stray... (April 28, 1990)

And, for one more Saturday, a few stray thoughts and a few general observations and a few points of view (all my own work):

Like suddenly, on the day of Idd, Governor Jagmohan, through recorganisation of his administrative machinery, has solved the kidnapping of Dr. Rubaiya Sayeed. Those responsible for the kidnapping have either been killed or otherwise died. The case is closed. And if you find this a little suspect, it is because you have got a suspicious mind.

Like I fully with Mr. V.P. Singh's policy that those who have lost the elections and re-entered parliament via the backdoor and the Rajya Sabha cannot be made ministers. Otherwise you have a case like Mr. Buta Singh, who should have stood from Punjab, but stood from Rajastan, lost the election (badly), then tried to enter the Rajya Sabha through Karnataka and become a minister.

Or the case of Mr. Ashok Sen, who does not want to be a minister, but feels insulted he has not been made one.

Like if Mr. Upendra is sincere about making Doordarshan programmes more interesting, he should bring back Mr. Rajiv Gandhi on the screen.

Like some of the best programmes have been those when Mr. Gandhi used to go on his tours of rural India, talking to the villagers in Hindi, firing lowly government officials, Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar standing in front of his making notes.

And I like the way everybody is accusing films for the increasing violence in the country. Life does not imitate films, films imitate life.

Like, I think, Sahar airport should continue to be known as Sahar airport. And I do not think Jawaharlal Nehru would have liked a sleazy airport to be named after him. I cannot say about the other contenders for the name, because I did not know them.

And these stray thoughts:

Like now that it is out of the tournament, I wonder if it would be returning home today. And poor Bishen Bedi, he seems to be so dejected that he was confined himself to praising the opposing teams.

Like what we should do to improve out game is to have regular matches with Sri Lanka.

And I wonder, if we had been in the group with Bangladesh, we would have won.

Like I would rate our standing in international sports thus: Our best event is archery, second is weight-lefting, third is wrestling, fourth, 400 m. women's hurdles. For the rest, we need not complete.

And this final point of view:

That the time has to change the captain. Will Sanjay Manjrekar, please, stand up.
