And, for one more Saturday, a few stray thoughts and a few points of view (all my own work)
Like there are times when I cannot figure out whether it is Mr. Chandra Shekhar’s government run by Mr. Rajiv Gandhi or Mr. Rajiv Gandhi’s government run by Mr. Chandra Shekhar.
And whoever it is, he does not seem to be doing a particularly good job of it. But then who does!
Like there are other times when I think Mr. Vasant Sathe is the most sensible politician of them all. But the trouble with his is that he goes this far and no more.
Like there may be a law and order problems in West Bengal, but considering what is happening in most of the other states, Mr. Jyoti Basu’s state seems to be as quiet and peaceful as switzerland.
Like first Mr. Chandra Shekhar was accompanied everywhere by Mr. Sanjay Singh, no he is accompanied by Mr. Subramaniam Swamy. And it is difficult to say whether that is an improvement or otherwise.
Like today is the third day of Dr. Homi Sethna as sheriff and so far he has nor made a single statement on whitewashing walls, saving drug-addicts, loving Bombay, nothing.
Like I do not agree with the municipal commissioner that the old buildings not be lit up every night. By all means illuminate them, but switch off the lights at midnight. Right now the Rajabai Tower is lit till 6 a.m., night after night.
Like I do not see what purpose this enite Maharastra legislature seassion in Nagpur has served, beyond celebrating the chief minister’s birthday.
Like if I were Alyque Padamsee, I would not stop at taking my Othello on a tour of Delhi, Calcutta and Madras, I would take it to London and New York.
Like our teams cas visit Pakistan, where men run out into the field and assault our captain, and where there is a permanent emergency, but Pakistan in nervous about coming to India, where there is trouble in a few states. And I say that’s not playing cricket.
And there must to some merit in encouraging domestic cricket. Consider the number of young crickets who have emerged in the last few days of Ranji. Deodhar and Wills cricket. Even it they are all batsmen and no bowlers.
And this final point of view:
That not only Rajiv Gandhi, but even Ramrao Adik cannot topple Sharad Pawar in his present form.
