And, for a Saturday, a few stray thoughts and... (July 20, 1996)

And, for a Saturday, a few stray thoughts and a few general opinions and a few points of view (all my own work):

Like P.T. Usha and Shiny Abraham in the 1996 Olympics seems like a return of an old Hindi film. And whoever picked the team must have been under the impression that it was a veterans' Olympics.

Like, outside hockey, there is not even a whisker of a chance for an Indian medal. Which leads to the question: why send a team? And to say to expose youngsters to the experience does not make sense, because there are no youngsters in the team.

Like died, money, living conditions, lack of motivation, they all contribute to our poor showing at the games, but what contributes most is the kind of sports officials we have.

And, talking of sports officials, I think a lot of newspaper space is being wasted on a gentleman called Jagmohan Dalmiya, who neither bats, not bowls, not fields.

Like, notice, the Pakistani cricketers in England are not doing much well than the Indians. That is some consolation.

And my advice to Azhharuddin is, forget captaincy, regain his batting from, and hit up a few tall cores. That would make his country happy and that would make him happy.

Like what a large commercial corporation can contribute to the pursuit of human excellence can be seen from the role of Coca-Cola in the present Games. And let nobody talk against sponsorship in sports.

Like I do not believe Mr. Narasimha Rao has made any money. However, it does seem that he has looked the other way when his kith, kin and Goodman have made money.

Like what is the point in striving all your like to become an MLA, MP, minister, chief minister, prime minister, then, towards the end of you life, face investigation prosecution.

Like, I say, when you get a chance to become a minister and serve the people, serve the people, serve them. Contribute some good to the world you will be soon leaving.

Like no concept has been so totally corrupted, first in Banglore, then in Bombay, then that of pubs. What we have are not pubs, they are discos.

And the fastest growing city in India at the moment, I understand, is not Banglore, it is Hyderabad.

Like what I am planning to do is go to Pune for a few race meets this season. Drive up to Pune the day before, stay at the club, make a little money at the races, then drive back the same evening.

Like some people are never happy, if the railway minister presents a budget in which train fares have not been raised, he is criticised for a populists budget.

And I agree with Mr. Vajpayee. There is no need for a mid-term poll, the day UF government fails, the BJP will resume power.

And this final point of view:

Put your trust in God, not in godmen.
