And, for a Saturday, a few stray thoughts and a few general observations and a few points of view (all my own work):
Like I am against the attack on newspapermen by Mr. Kanshi Ram and his goons being countered by Delhi journalists taking a morcha and submitting a memorandum to the home minister. These are remedies for normal citizens. Journalists should use the weapons they have got, write against these men in their papers, expose them further.
Like being beaten up, even getting shot, is part of the game of being a journalist and some of the inherent risks of the job. If you have to run to the government every time this happens, then it is better to be a bank clerk.
Like a long time ago I lost track of U.P. politics. I do not know who is on which side and how many sides there are. Aslo, I do not know what difference it makes to the rest of the country what happens in U.P. Even the prime ministers do not come from there any more. Then why all this daily in-depth coverage!
Like U.P. and Bihar must be the two worst governed states in the country. And I sympathise with its people.
Like Gujarat also has no government worth the name, but economically it is prosperous and continues so develop.
Like it is my theory that had Mr. Manohar Joshi and not Mr. Chhagan Bhujbal left the Shiv Sena and joined the Congress, the Congress in Maharastra would not have been in the state it is today. And, who knows, Mr. Joshi may go down in history as the best chief minister that the state has had.
Like it is interesting to note how many Maharashtra Congress leaders have washed their hands off the state: Mr. Antulay, Mr. Shakerrao Chavan, Mr. Sudhakar Naik, Mr. Sharad Pawar have all gone to Delhi, Mr. Sushilkumar Shinde wants to return to Delhi, and Mr. Ramrao Adik has returned to his practice at the high court.
Like there is no business like movie business. If you do not believe me, go see Dr. Zhivago at the Regal this evening. It is one of those rare occasions when the book and the movie are equally great.
And what I would like to see is Lawrence Of Arabia, the full version.
Like I would like to carry out a poll among citizen: Offered free tickets (transport, etc., included), and the choice of only one of the two shows, would they choose the Miss World contest or the Michael Jackson show.
Like every match in the current Titan Cup series is being described as a key match, and, in a way, every match so far has been.
And I do not think getting Navjot Singh Sidhu is going to solve any problems, he will play in a couple of matches - then report ill.
And this final point of view:
That I have been observing Mr. Balasaheb Thackeray. In the beginning, he was against South Indians, then against Gujratis, then Muslims, now he is against judges.
