One of my immediate desires is to travel to Chiplun by train, now that the first section of the Bombay-Goa-Manglore Kokan Railway has been completed and in operation. And I read this morning a railway notification that 20 extra holiday specials are being run, starting today, so my desire seems feasible.
My plan is to travel to Chiplun, stay at the Taj Hotel there overnight, then travel overnight, then travel back.
Unfortunately, the holiday specials are all night trains, leaving Kurla at 11.30 in the night and arriving in Chiplun 5.30 next morning. That, unfortunately, does not serve the purpose. I would like to see the new virgin territory that the train is passing through, step out on the new stations along the way. In a night train, this is not possible.
There are also two regular trains to Chiplun. One of them leaves in the night, so that's out. The other leaves early in the morning, in the pre-dawn hours, which would be just right. Unfortunately, it leaves from Diva, which is beyond Thane and a little before Kalyan. And how do I reach Diva at 5 o'clock in the morning.
So I am waiting for more suitable trains. I am also waiting for the extension of the train to Goa and Manglore.
